His was married to dentist Aune Ilus. He is most notable for his fairy tale Pessi and Illusia and initiating conservation work for whooper swan in Finland.〔(He lived for a long time in Lapland, in Muonio and Enontekiö and wrote about Sami culture and the nature in Lapland.
